Disclaimers:
– US on the right, UK on the left.
– I used random.org to pick a random year between 2005-2020. I did try from 2000 but back then covers weren’t uploaded online in high quality like they are now.
– The book will have been originally published in 2011, the cover may not have been.
– If any of this is wrong, blame Goodreads pls.

I’ve never been a fan of girls in big dresses for covers, but the US cover is pretty, and I love the title design.

I have slated the US cover in the past, and with good reason – pay attention to where her hair stops, especially above her shoulder. Yup. I really like the grid style of the UK cover.

The blue tones are really nice and I love the pop of red.

I cannot pick one, I hate them both. I’m sorry.

I am obsessed with sunset tones after Whisper To Me and The Falling In Love Montage.

I am about 90% sure that this is actually the same book. Bizarre, I know. I have no idea why the title changed or why they went for such a middle grade feel.

I do quite like the colour palette, and it has the added bonus of not having a flower slapped on it. I quite like how the US went for no capitals so in retaliation the UK all caps’ed the entire title.

It simply looks a little less dated, and I do like gold on covers.

This was SUCH a hyped book back in 2011, it felt like everyone was reading it. I’m not a fan of the crop of the US cover, but it looks less like… urine

The US cover feels quite different to YA covers, which I really like. The UK one looks a little bit too historical for me.

Which was your favourite cover overall? I love the UK cover of What I Thought Was True.

  1. Great post! It’s so interesting to see how different the covers can be. I have some UK covers on my shelf because I like them more than the US version, haha.
