The last few of these cover smackdowns have been Young Adult books, but today I thought I’d switch it up with one of my favourite things – Middle Grade covers! Middle Grade Covers are honestly fine art, they are incredible to look at and a big reason why I keep reading them as an adult.
Disclaimers:

I find the UK cover to be a little too busy, and I have read this book – I think the characters on the US cover depict the Widdershin’s sisters perfectly.

I just bought a UK copy of this last week! If I remember correctly, the windows have gold foil on them, which is a nice touch.

I had to tripe check that I hadn’t accidentally got a graphic novel cover with the US, it really gives me that vibe. I love the symmetry of the UK cover and the colour scheme, I can picture a whole series of different colours in my head.

I had to really think about this one, because both covers are illustrated by the same artist and quite similar, but I felt that the UK cover showed the train theme much better, whereas the US cover the train is in the background and I had to be staring at it for a moment to really notice it.

The only thing really tying these two covers together is the hot air balloon, I don’t know why they’re so different. I like the US cover better, the art is gorgeous and the weird shadow people with the glowing eyes on the UK cover is a little unsettling.

They’re very different covers but I just can’t pick, I think they’re both perfect. The colour scheme of the UK cover is gorgeous, and there’s lots of detail that catches my eye. On the US cover, it literally is eye-catching, with the giant fish creature staring right at you, and I like the extra detail of the normal sized fish to give an indication that this is a giant creature.

The US cover really reminds me of Northern Lights and Serafina Pekkala, and the blues and pinks are just gorgeous.

Both covers are gorgeous but the US cover is so creepy, with the little girl staring over the hedge. It really makes me want to read it.

The UK cover is nice at first glance, but the hills and girl seem a little… poorly drawn. The US cover art is perfect, it looks like a fantasy London.

I love bordered covers and the purple is so good. The pops of red really make this cover stand out.

Which was your favourite cover overall? I love the US cover of The Middler.

OOOH I’ve seen Nevertell on amazon a few times (the other people who bought the book you’re looking at bought these section) and haven’t been motivated to click through to it… BUT WITH THAT US COVER I WOULD!
My votes: 1 UK, 2 UK, 3 UK, 4 UK, 5 USA, 6 USA, 7 USA, 8 UK, 9 USA, 10 UK

I love looking at how different the covers are, it’s so interesting to see what they’ve focused on

Once again I picked UK for all of them except one hahaha. I don’t know why but something about the UK covers just appeal to me–not on the colors and the artwork but the fonts as well.
